Traditional markets

Halle de Revel Marché de Saint-Gaudens

Every Saturday morning, the town of Revel is graced with one of the regions most attractive farmer’s markets. This takes place in the magnificent 14th Century marketplace which has nearly 300 stands.  It has been classified among the top 100 “most beautiful markets of France”.

In Montbrun-Bocage, a small quaint and remarkable village (timber framed houses and a central wooden covered market) enjoys its picturesque market every Sunday morning including stands with organic produce, medicinal herbs, spices and other curios – the whole setting lending itself to an agreeable and friendly ambiance. Two times a year there are also special markets, the Springtime’s “Foire de Printemps” and the Autumn’s “Foire d’Automne”. These bring together more than 300 exhibitors presenting divers themes such as renewable energy, music of the world, local and organic gastronomy, organic seed producers, vintage apple varieties and other fruit trees, artistic expositions and crafts workshops.

The Sunday before Christmas, in the small Lauragais village of Saint-Julia–de-Gras-Capou, poultry breeders organize the special market called “Gras Capou”, (which means fattened capon in Occitan). The Gras-Capou name linked with the Saint-Julia village is a reminder that capon chickens have been raised here since time immemorial.  The day’s program includes: a traditional market, a parade of fraternal organizations, mass in Occitan, initiation ceremonies, a capon show, prize awards and free sample tasting of capon meat.
Take note: this fortified village’s church, built on a promontory, has the oldest and largest church bell of Haute-Garonne.
